2008 North Star Hobby Stock Rules

  1. ROLL CAGE – No offset cages, Four-post roll cages must be used, front and rear hoop welded to the OEM                         

frame.  Recommended location – no more than 41 inches from top center of windshield to front edge of rear hoop, no more than 13 inches to front edge of front hoop and top halo must be n less than 40 inches across, outside to outside.  Rear kickers minimum 1.25 tubing.  Must use .095 – inch tubing, at least 1.666 – inch diameter for cages and door bars.  May also use 1-1/2 inch OD schedule .40, .125 wall pipe.  Three horizontal door bars on both sides are mandatory.  Minimum of four upright tied from frame to top door bar on driver’s side, three on passenger side.  May have two bars for protection in front of radiator, behind bumper, within confines of body, no wider than stock frame horns.  May tie front horns together.  All bars front and rear - must be inside frame body.  Must have minimum of one cross bar in top of halo of roll cage.  Recommended steel doorplates welded to door bars, 18 gauge or .049 inch thickness metal.  Must have tow hook front and rear, front hoops allowed.  Absolutely NO square tubing or galvanized pipe allowed!  Fuel cell protection bar may be used mounted frame rail to frame rail, no higher than the fuel cell and inside the truck area.  Maximum 1.75 inch pipe.

 

  1. SAFETY - Five point safety belts, sub belt and shoulder harness required. SFI approved full fire suit. Fire retardant neck brace and fire retardant gloves mandatory, fire shoes recommended.  Helmets are required and must be Snell SA2000.  Helmet must be worn at all times car is on the track and accompany vehicle at time of inspection.  Roll bar padding is required in driver compartment.  Fire retardant padding recommended.  Belts must be mounted to cage.  Full (minimum 16 inch by 20 inch) window net required.  No string type nets.  Window net must be mounted so latch is at top front of driver’s side window.  Kill switch must be within easy reach of drivers and must be clearly marked “OFF” and “ON”.  360-degree driveshaft loop is required and must be constructed of at least 14 inch by 2-inch steel or 1-inch tubing should be mounted six inches back from front u-joint.  Steel driveshaft only and must be painted white.  Minimum 2 inch diameter driveshaft.  All cars must have an aluminum-racing seat fastened to roll cage, not bolted to the floorboard.  Drivers shoulder can be no further back than the front of the window post.

 

  1. ELECTRONICS – **Only track racing receivers allowed in car.**  No electronic monitoring computer devices capable of storing or transmitting information except tach allowed on cars.  No digital gauges allowed on car.  No ignition control boxes allowed, OEM ignition.

 

  1. FUEL – Fuel cell is mandatory,  22 gallon fuel cell maximum.  Must be securely fastened inside the trunk of car and mounted by at least two 1/8 inch thick solid steel straps, 2 inches wide around cell, above level of stock floor trunk.  Firewall must be between driver and fuel cell.  All cell mounts must be steel, attached to frame/cage.  No adjustable fuel cell mounts.  Fuel cell must be in steel container.  Check valve required.  Fuel lines through driver compartment must be in metal pipe or metal conduit.

 

  1. BATTERY – One 12-volt battery only, must be in a marine type case securely mounted to frame or roll cage in a metal frame behind the seat or in the trunk area.

 

  1. TIRES AND WHEELS – 8-inch steel wheels.  No extreme bead or beadlock wheel.  IMCA G60-15 or IMCA McCreary American Racing Tire, may be grooved and siped.

 

  1. FRAME – Frame must match the body, 110” minimum wheelbase, no mare than one-inch difference from side to side.  Frames may be x-braced.  Unibodies must be tied – rear frame to front frame.  No x-frame cars.  No pony cars.  No station wagons, convertibles, front wheel drive, and four-wheel drive or rear engine frame.  Bumpers must be in stock location.  Front and rear bumpers must be capped to fender the width of the bumper.  No reinforcement of bumpers.

 

  1. SUSPENSION – must be original type suspension and match the frame.  Steel springs only.  No add-on quick steel boxes.  No remote reservoirs on power steering pumps.  All shocks must be OEM type car shocks.  Must mount in factory stock mounts.

 

  1. BRAKES – Master cylinder must be in stock location.  Approved OEM brakes on all four wheels must work.  No rear wheel disc brakes.  No aftermarket brakes pedal assemblies allowed.  No brake shut off or bias allowed.  No plastic brake lines.

 

  1. BODY – American made stock appearing automobiles with factory steel top.  Sunroof and t-tops must e reinforced and enclosed.  All bodies must be approved OEM.  No spoilers, wings, skirts, air scoops or anything that alters the stock appearance.  Gutting of hood, trunk and doors allowed.  No cutting of kick panels.  All hoods and trunks must be securely fastened and the back of hood must be sealed off from driver’s compartment with metal.  Maximum seven-inch sun visor may be added to op of windshield opening.  External rub rails must be gulch with the body, 2-inch by 1-inch square tubing or 1-1/2 inch diameter pipe maximum.  All sharp edges, torn fenders and body panels to be repaired prior to next race.  Must have a minimum of three (3) windshield bars in front of driver.  All glass, plastic, upholstery, rear seat, lights, mirrors, and chrome removed.  Recommended that dash is not to extend more that 24 inches back from center of lower windshield opening, dash must be flat, except for the cowl in front of the driver.  No other interior tin or covers.  All doors must be secured shut (welded, bolted, no rivets or chains).  The front inner wheel sells may be removed, but no the rear wheel wells.  Aftermarket nose pieces allowed (cannot have mounting supports in front of bumper).  May cover rear seat side window opening (tin or plexiglass).

 

  1. DRIVE TRAIN – All forward and reverse gears must be operational.  Transmission must be approved OEM automatic, with original bell housing and functional torque converter or approved OEM single disc type clutch inside an explosion proof steel bell housing on manual transmission.  Automatic must have an approved scattershield (may be constructed of quarter inch by 6-inch steel 270 degrees around the flexplate or flywheel).  Torque converters must have a minimum 1/8 inch plug.  No truck rear ends allowed.  Steel axles only.  Nine-inch ford rear ends allowed but must be mounted like stock rear end for the make and model.  Rear end may be welded or mini spool, no full spools.  No floater rear ends.  Rear suspension must match frame.  No electronic or mechanical traction control devices allowed.

 

  1. NUMBERS – Car numbers must be clearly marked on both sides of the car, 24-inch height and 3-inch stripe width, must also have car number on the roof, at least 18-inche height and 3-inch stripe width.  Number must also be on the back of car.

 

  1. ENGINES - 360 cu. in. engine maximum.  Chrysler cars 370 cu. in.   (360 cu. in. mandatory in 2003) 360 cu. in. engine rules: Flat top pistons only, GM cars – approved steel head numbers are: 014, 195, 267, 330, 336, 388, 393, 441, 445, 454, 487, 493, 545, 598, 624, 642, 709, 799, 813, 862, 881, 882,, 920, 991, 993, 997; Ford cars, no aftermarket or SVO heads, Chrysler cars no aftermarket or W2 heads. 360 cu. in. heads only.  Must be 76 cc heads or larger.  No Ford SVO heads.  Chrysler; No W2 heads, W4 or Direct Connection heads.  FOLLOWING RULES APPLY TO ALL ENGINES:

 

    1. The engine must appear strictly stock for the model and make and in the original mounts.  Stroke must match the block.  Cylinder head must be unaltered approved OEM.  No porting, polishing or alterations of any kind to heads or intake.

 

    1. Must have approved OEM cast iron two-barrel intake.  Four-barrel intake allowed with two-barrel space adapter.  No slider adapter.  Maximum 1-1/4 inch in steel or aluminum.  No headers, must be cast iron exhaust manifolds.  No center dump type manifolds. Exhaust must extend past the firewall.  Must remain duel exhaust, no crossover or “Y” pipes allowed.

 

    1. No electrical fuel pumps allowed.  Aluminum radiators allowed.  Only one radiator allowed.  No nodular iron or aluminum flywheels.  No aluminum water pumps on GM cars.  No roller tip rocker arms.  No roller lifters.  No stud girdles.  Any overflow tubes are to be directed to the dround, between the frame rails.  Mufflers are recommended.  Accumulators and accusumps must be mounted under the hood.  Starter must bolt in the stock location.

 

    1. All cars must run a 2-barrel Holley 350 cfm, 7448 Holley or Dorton 0-800787.  May remove choke, but no other alterations allowed.  Illegal carbs can be confiscated (track option).

 

    1. ** Throttle linkage MUST be mechanical type linkage, NO cable throttles allowed**

 

    1. All cars must have the capability of starting without being pushed or pulled.  All cars must join the line upon demand, un-aided, or go to the rear of that race.

 

  1. WEIGHT – All cars must weigh a minimum of 3200 lbs. following each race program.  Ballast or weights           may not be used in driver’s compartment or outside body or under the hood area.  Any weights added must be  securely mounted with at least two 1/2-inch bolts, painted white and have car number on it.  All cars, which qualify for the A-main in the heat must scale. Number of cars which scale following the A-feature is track option.

 

  1. PROTEST RULE – Driver may protest a car by posting a $50.00 fee for the top half or $50.00 fee for the bottom half of the motor.  Protest must be made prior to the start of the A-Main.  Drivers protesting must take the green flag in the A-Main.  Driver being protested will receive the protest fee, if found legal.  Penalty for being found illegal is loss of ALL points to date, loss of monies for the night, and 2 race program suspension.  A protest refusal is same as being found illegal.

 

  1. CLAIM RULE - $325.00 and exchange for engine claim.  IMCA claim procedure will be enlisted.

 

  1. RULE BOOK DISCLAIMER – The rules and or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events and, by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have compiled with these rules.  NO EXPRESSION OR IMPIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM UBLICATIONS OF, OR IMPLICATIONS WITH THESE AND/OR RULES AND/OR REGULATIONS.

 

The race director shall be empowered to permit minor deviations from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in his/her opinion do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements.  NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATIONS OF SPECIFICATIONS.  Any interpretations of these rules are left to the discretion of the officials.  THEIR DECISIONS ARE FINAL!!
